This week’s question comes to us from Susan in New York. Susan is wondering if there is a politically correct way to turn away an applicant that does not fit the culture of the club they are trying to build. Al, Louis, Marc and Todd share their thoughts in this week’s edition of Contact the Tower:
Very warm attitude toward “the world of aviation” and I wish that we could invite everyone into our world at East Hill Flying Club. We have discovered there *are* some people (usually already established pilots with entrenched attitudes contrary to safety) that you *do not* want in your organization. Sorry to be a cynical realist, but nice suggestions, firm rules and public sanction sometimes all fail and a “bad apple” can cause endless trouble and create lots of negative feelings you just don’t need. The time and energy spent trying to rehabilitate a “problem pilot” is sometimes too much! We get together and vote…sometimes the answer is “no”
